World AIDS Day 1 December: Wear red ribbon with Pride

Since 1988 “World AIDS Day” celebrated on 1 December each and every year and also marking its 30th anniversary. Raising awareness related to AIDS epidemic which is caused by HIV infection. So, as more we bring awareness into the society it helps to bring more clarity to our thoughts. Due to, we need to have more shout-out in the public for this AIDS pandemic so far we can. So, this time let’s cheer-up more along with this on World AIDS Day 1 December wear a red ribbon with pride, for to all our HIV-AIDS solidarity of people not let them feel unaccompanied.

As per statistics in 2017, due to this epidemic AIDS, 30 million to 41 million people get killed worldwide.

It is estimated that 36.7 million people are living with HIV and However, gradually due to education & awareness related to this HIV-AIDS decreased since its hit the highest point in 2004-2005.

History

This concept is first introduced in 1988 by two public information officers those are detained for the Global Program on AIDS, their name was James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter. When afterward, this idea is taken to Dr. Jonathan Mann (Director of the Global AIDS program) this idea is heartily approved by them and recommended for World AIDS Day should be celebrated every year on 1 December.

It is believed that in 2004, the World AIDS Campaign became an independent organization.

Since 1993, the presidents of United States have made an official public statement for World AIDS Day. Therefore, last year on November 30, 2017, united state President Donald Trump gave a public statement related to World AIDS Day for 1 December. to know more about World AIDS Day check the link.

Different Themes are used each year

Since many years World AIDS Day campaigns clearly focused and celebrated with a specific theme. In 2018 the theme is on “Know your status”

This year theme is special and trying to targeting and approaching towards such peoples those are living with HIV and even don’t know about their status. Therefore, according to the statistics three in four people living with HIV.

How does a Theme decide? Each year theme is selected by the Global Steering committee for the World AIDS Campaign.

And the theme is not meant or used for the single day. So, bring more awareness regarding HIV-AIDS internationally. Further, uses of this theme along with major global events such as G8 Summit, Students Stop AIDS Campaign,

Importance of Symbol

The main important symbol for “World HIV-AIDS” denoted by the red ribbon which stands for awareness related to this disease. And also represent to support for people living with HIV positive.

The red ribbon symbol also wears by the people a whole year to denote remember and caring to the solidarity of people living with HIV-AIDS and show support and respect towards those who are died by this deadly disease.

Where this idea of Red ribbon comes from? It is initiated at the year of 1988.  When a group name called “Visual AIDS” was created by the arts professional engaging society such as art community, organizing artist and passionate art audiences developed to take an appropriate action on AIDS.

Finally, in 1991 Visual AIDS artist came together for designing a real symbol which can explain and reveal compassion of people living with HIV. First of all, they enthused by yellow ribbons for the honoring of American soldiers. However, afterward they literally choose Red one and consider for “red ribbon” they believed Red color associated with blood and love; it will be a perfect gesture for passion toward caring, loving, preventative measure & alertness related to this pandemic.

Know Your Status via HIV Testing 

HIV testing is necessary to verify and make sure to know about your status. So, that is helpful to know your progressing of your treatment and ensuring to lead a productive life.

People hesitate and mostly remain concerned related to the HIV testing and prefer to carry out the confidential HIV testing.

HIV Testing is should be done on time; most of the time is observed in people tested themselves only after falling sick and experiencing any unusual health issues.

In some undeveloped countries, people experience ashamed because of their community reasons and they consider social acceptance of them will hamper. So, that’s why they avoid doing HIV Testing.

This time, we need have to take initiative to work together and raising awareness in community or society about to know your status via HIV Testing.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is so widespread in some communities for this reason the transmission possibilities are very high every time someone has a sexual encounter. So, that’s why prevention tools are required like- more awareness towards the use of condoms, keep safety measures after and before of having sex, PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis) antiviral drugs as a strategy prevention of HIV/AIDS, more impatience before sex is not a good sign for your healthy sex.

Most important, ignorance towards awareness of this disease is the main cause of spreading of it more rapidly around the world.
